Fiordland in Focus

Welcome to Fiordland Cruise Consultants – providing you with Port Lecturing information services for the fiords of New Zealand

Fiordland - Te Rua-o-te-moko (Shadowland) is a land apart being the largest remaining wilderness area in New Zealand encompassing the south west corner of the South Island, New Zealand.

It comprises a wild uninhabited remote landscape of mountains, valleys, cool temperate rainforest and a diverse water world of lakes, rivers, waterfalls and fjords - truly an outstanding wilderness on a grand scale.

Fiordland is the largest National Park in New Zealand and one of the largest in the world. Spanning two degrees of latitude, from 44 to 46 degrees south, it stretches from Martins Bay in the north to Te Waewae Bay in the south, and from the mighty eastern lakes of Te Anau and Manapouri to the 14 spectacular fiords of the west coast comprising in all an area of 13,000 square kilometres, over 1.2 million hectares (3.1 million acres), nearly 5% of the area of New Zealand. Fiordland contains New Zealand's largest remaining expanse of beech-podocarp forest

Fiordland was constituted as a National Park in 1952 and was declared a World Heritage Area for its natural properties in 1986 joining a select group of natural icons of international fame forming part of the greater South West World Heritage Area known as Te Wahipounamu.
